Volunteer Opportunities

Literacy Lab

Fisherman's Mark has received a Community Relations Grant from the United Way of Hunterdon County to implement a Literacy Services Lab on our campus.  Volunteers are needed for one-on-one tutoring as needed for Computer Basics, ESL Programs, and Adult Basic Skills.

Farmers, Families, & Fisherman's Mark

In June 2011 we will launch our second year of Farmers, Families, & Fisherman's Mark.  We will need volunteers with the ability to answer questions about available produce, to set up and staff the farmer's market for a 4 hour shift, and to break down the farmer's market at the end of the shift.  We will also be looking for cooking enthusiasts interested in giving cooking demonstrations while the market is open on certain dates.  Gravity Hill Farm in Titusville, NJ (along with several other local farms) will continue to generously donate produce from their farm, in their commitment to give back to the community, they will also offer an orientation to our Farm Stand and Food Pantry Volunteers on the produce that they are offering.

Food Pantry Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to sort and box food that comes in from community drives and salvage from grocery chains, farmers markets, and farms. Individuals and groups are invited to donate their time and skills to help the Fisherman's Mark Food Pantry distribute food to food insecure families and individuals.

Numerous opportunities are available to assist with feeding the hungry, such as:

  • Inspecting and sorting donated food
  • Helping at a special event
  • Donating your specialty or professional services such as graphic design, printing or photography

Volunteers include, among others:

  • Committees for special events
  • Quality control workers
  • Office assistants (data input, filing, reception duty)
  • Spanish-language translators of written materials
  • Researchers
  • Groups who handle large mailings (newsletters, thank you letters/cards)
  • Advisors in food acquisition and handling, finances, marketing, fundraising and other areas of expertise
  • Coordinators of Food & Fund Drives for workplaces, schools, clubs, professional associations, religious organizations, civic groups, neighborhoods and other groups
  • Food & Fund Drive Teams

Food & Fund Drive Teams sponsor food drives for nonperishable, or shelf-stable, foods and often collect money as well. Although most groups hold their drives in the spring or fall, we encourage groups to organize food drives any time of the year. Donated food and financial support is welcome anytime to help feed hungry families throughout the entire year.
